Project details: - Project name: Connecting Energy Savings Solutions in housing for improved livelihoods and enhanced job opportunity - Duration: 7 months - Location: Kabul districts (13, 14 and 16) - Implementers: Geres and RMO The project " Connecting Energy Savings Solutions in housing for improved livelihoods and enhanced job opportunity" has been designed to contribute to ensure heating and cooking means, reducing costs thereof and improve living conditions of the targeted populations. The project target 375 most vulnerable households of targeted districts to be equipped with Energy Saving Solutions via at least 30 trained artisans and the support of community representatives. The project also supports large awareness campaign to inform at least 5500 through direct awareness campaign. By end of the project, 418 houses are equipped with ESS verses 370 planned, of which 71 of them are women headed households. A baseline and end use assessment are performed for 171 houses out of 418 equipped with ESS who report more comfort and fuel saving. 33 artisans are trained and supported for additional income and job opportunity, with 28 of them reported increase of income and better job opportunity. In addition, by the end of the project, around 6.066 people out of which 3.776 of them are women, received direct awareness of ESS benefit, the project and how to access ESS.

Project details: - Project name: Energy and Food Production Solutions for Peri-urban Afghanistan - Duration: 26 months started April 2024 - Location: Kabul Province (two municipality and two provincial districts) - Implementers: Rural Movement Organization - Overall objective: The resilience of urban and peri urban population against economic, climatic and ecological crises is strengthened in selected project areas. - Specific Objective: To provide Energy Saving Solutions (ESS) and Food Process and Production (FPP) solutions to vulnerable households of 4 Districts of Kabul Province enabling their access to clean energy and healthier food. ESS and FPP aim at supporting the target population towards access to better quality living conditions and food security thanks to the promotion, manufacturing and dissemination of innovative approved energy saving technologies by local artisans: improved cooking stoves, tandoor cap, improved Digdan, solar cooker, solar verandas, greenhouses, solar dryers. These technologies on one site significantly reduce the heating and cooking fuel consumptions and on other hand bring more comfort and improve health and livelihoods of the users. RMO assessments show, over 90 % heating and over 30% cooking fuel used by Kabyl peri urban communities are biomass fuel (wood, coal, sawdust, animal dung etc), moreover very poor categories burn old tires, plastic items, old shoes… to heat their houses, these items warning kabul and global environment and challenge the health of users. By Introducing ESS and Equipping houses with it, we expect the fuel consumption will be significantly reduced and people enjoy better indoor and outdoor air quality. Relevant Output Indicators: - Number of artisans trained: from 0 to 56 - Number of households equipped with ESS: from 0 to 920 - Number of women implementing FPP: from 0 to 260 - Number of women received training and support on business development and marketing increased: from 0 to 45 - Number of women received training and support on kitchen garden and greenhouses management are increased: from 0 to 15 Highlighted outputs by end 2025: - 58 artisans for ESS manufacturing and installations: (103%) - 666 houses equipped with ESS:(72.3 %) - 180 women trained and supported for: (69.23 %) - 20 women received training and support on business development and marketing: (44.4 %) - 10 women received training and support on kitchen garden or greenhouses management: (67%) The project “Energy and Food Production Solutions for Peri-urban Afghanistan” is expected to strongly contribute on climate change mitigations, local economy development/poverty reduction and women empowerment.
